On the weekend of March 20-22 we held our first international farm tour. I got the idea of doing a farm tour last fall from a UNL Crusade staff member who told me how effective farm tours were in forming relationships and trust with international students.
Two student leaders from the University of Nebraska at Kearney along with six international students from UNK ended up coming down to Columbus, NE (Lynn’s home town) to attend the tour.
The weekend was centered around allowing the international students to stay with a Christian host family, spend Saturday going to different farms, and end the weekend on Sunday attending church with their host families.
On Saturday morning Kerri, a student leader at Kearney passionately shared her testimony in very simple English to many of the students who had never heard the gospel before. We then broke up into three groups to discuss Kerri’s talk. I met with Xiodan and Lu (who you may remember from a previous newsletter) both females from China and I asked them what they thought of Kerri’s talk.
Xiodan commented that this was the first time that she had a Christian be so open to share about their life and as she listened to Kerri speak she felt “warm” inside. She also said that she and her family do not practice any religion. Both girls then began to fervently ask me more about Christianity.
The rest of Saturday was spent touring farms and I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face watching the majority of the students see farms animals up close for the very first time. Most Asian international students come from metropolitan areas.)
