Encounter with Lu

Not every day on a campus goes just the way you planned and for me one afternoon at UNK, it was just one of those days. Meetings with college women weren’t working out well and a boldness to share my faith was lacking. But, God, in all His grace blessed me with the divine appointment connecting me with a student from China named Lu. Lu had only been here a month and her English was decent. She loved to talk about China and I loved to listen. Knowing my time with her was short I kindly interjected and asked her about her beliefs. She said she had more of a Buddhist view; that she believed that good people go to heaven and bad people go to hell. I then asked Lu if I could tell her what Christians believe. As I explained, I knew I needed to look to the Holy Spirit for help. I began telling her of God’s love and then went into sin. As I defined sin as the separation from Christ, the Spirit prompted me to share about how sin entered the world through Adam and Eve. She got excited because she had gotten a hold of a Bible (which in China is a very rare thing.) Lu had read about Adam and Eve and the “big boat”. As I laid out the Gospel--how Christ hung on the cross for her sins--her eyes got big and I didn’t know what she was grasping. Then and there God revealed that I was simply placing the first seed of truth in her life and that He would finish His work of planting more. She did not surrender her life to Christ that day, but she did hear the Truth; not by her goodness does she obtain salvation, but by faith in Christ alone. I also gave her name to a Korean believer on campus and I asked her to stay in contact with her. Please pray for Lu to come to the saving knowledge of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Erik and I have many more stories of students we have run into who have never stepped foot into a church in their life, or only attended a few times, most have never heard about the Good News about Jesus Christ’s redemptive love on the cross. At times this is hard for me to believe when they live in the United States where in so many cities you can find a church on every corner. Even through the many struggles of learning every new detail of our job, about the weaknesses of ourselves, the late nights, and all the travel, I can breathe easier knowing that for this season of our lives, this is where the Lord has called us. Oh how we delight in serving our Lord!! Lynn Miller
